In relationships, distance shouldn’t be anything but a number. They could live next door, could live a couple of blocks, and could live in another city/state/country. How you chose to act in your relationship is entirely up to you. Now, for whatever reason you could be busy or occupied. If you want any relationship to work, no doubt about it, you would have to work hard for it. As simple as that, any long distance relationships require dedication and time. It means being there ready to pick up his/her phone call or skype invitation/request.
What I really want to hit with the notion of distance is not a focus on the physical distance between the two of you but on an emotional level of distance. An episode of Dexter said it best, that no matter how close two individuals are to each other, there is an infinite distance that still separates them. Someone can be physically present yet emotionally distant from another. It feels like that person just ‘isnt there’ – you lose connection. Is it a defense mechanism? Who knows but being emotionally distant is like putting up a wall.
There will be times when you need to put up that wall, to shut the world out for a second but don’t do it so often. Place yourself on the other end of that wall, how would you feel? I would be frustrated and lost on what to do, it hurts.
Try your best to never build those walls and to keep close not only a physical but also an emotional distance with that other partner.
:)
this is effective XD
